Romantic Getaway in France in a Mediaeval Tower

Updated: Nov 19, 2021

Are you thinking of a surprise break with your loved one? Romantic holidays in February can mean a long flight to somewhere warm, but what about giving a gift of a holiday for later this year or next? If you are looking at secret escapes online, think of arriving to a roaring log fire in the massive stone chimneypiece of a mediaeval tower.

A romantic Tower for a Perfect Getaway in France

Romantic breakfasts and dinners prepared for you by your hostess, a beautifully draped bed in a semi-circular beamed bedroom and only a flight of an hour and twenty minutes from Stansted!

We’re just thirty-five minutes from Poitiers airport, nestled in a valley where white charolais cattle graze in the valley and the village is surrounded by beautiful woodland. La Tour is one of the most romantic places to stay in Deux-Sèvres, the second sunniest region in France!

Romantic fire-lit evenings in France

If you love holidays in beautiful France and would like a completely unique romantic getaway, consider sitting around the lovely fire pit in the garden of La Tour, on a sheepskin rug with a glass of fizz in hand and a platter of tempting oysters. What could be more romantic?

Climb the spiral staircase to a beautiful bedroom where the barn owl roosts on the window sill. He moves to the church tower when we have guests and when you are outside enjoying a drink on the terrace in the gloaming, he’ll swoop down from the tower and you can see him fly over the church, just next to La Tour.

Delicious picnic

If, during your break, you would like to treat your partner to a taste of luxury travel, ask your hostess, Paula, for a delicious picnic. She’ll arrange for fizz and a cream tea to be packed so you can set off on a stunning balloon flight, have a punter take you through the myriad of ancient canals on the Marais Poitevin, or search out orchids in the Boutonne Valley on May 9th. Should you be fans of vintage cars, consider the Bressuire Grand Prix held on the last weekend in June. For the chance to be transported back in time, lovers of vintage cars will adore this weekend. I did! And come home to La Tour to a roaring fire and a delicious dinner prepared by your hostess. Just ask for a menu!

Maybe stunning chateaux and ancient villages are your idea of a perfect day out for a romantic holiday. Consider a gentle drive through the French countryside on open, uncrowded roads to Crizzay-sur-Manse, a tiny Loire village with the stunning Chateau de Rivau nearby. Move onto Chinon afterwards, or visit the lovely Chateau of Azay le Rideau. Enjoy your delicious picnic in the shade of a tree on the bank of the river... the chateau is on an island in the river!

Romantic Getaway in France at Christmastime

For a complete contrast, instead of thinking of last-minute holidays and travel deals, plan ahead and come to visit France for the delightful Christmas market at St. Loup, just a short drive from Pressigny. Take a glass of delicious, traditional mulled wine to warm you as you wander the stalls full of crafts made by some of the stunningly talented artists living in Deux Sevres. The delightful mediaeval village has a striking chateau and an ancient castle in the grounds where the owners now live.

Luxury honeymoon package

If you are looking for a luxury honeymoon package and would like something unique, ask Paula to help you plan a holiday bespoke for you, especially and carefully planned for the person you love most in your life! If you don’t speak French, Paula will help with organising any special visits you would like to make, from balloon rides to hiring vintage cars.
